PREFLIGHT TO RECEIPT

Send altcoins with a clear plan.

Use a consistent workflow to send altcoins between compatible wallets or exchange accounts. Start with the recipient's instructions, work through the transaction preview, and finish with an independent receipt check. The details vary by asset and app, but the questions you need to answer follow a useful, repeatable order.

1. Prepare the receiving side

Open the destination wallet or exchange and select the asset and receiving network. Copy the address from that trusted screen, together with any required memo or destination tag. Check deposit minimums, current network availability and any account-specific instructions before preparing a withdrawal.

For a payment to someone else, confirm that these are their current receiving details. For an account you own, check which account is selected inside the app. Keep the original instructions available until the transfer is complete. The address and network verification guide explains how to check the full destination and avoid misleading history entries.

2. Select the source asset and network

Choose the account that holds the balance, then select the exact asset and network. A direct send needs the receiving setup to accept that combination. If the source and destination do not share a supported route, pause and work through the cross-chain transfer guide before adding a bridge or conversion.

Distinguish the network's native asset from a token issued on it. Their transfers may present different fee requirements. Many wallet transfers need a native-asset fee balance, while some apps support alternative fee arrangements. MetaMask's token-sending instructions demonstrate why the selected token balance and fee balance need separate attention.

3. Check the amount, fees and test

Enter the intended quantity in asset units. Inspect the fee and the expected received amount, especially when a platform deducts a withdrawal charge. If an exchange has a minimum deposit, compare that minimum with what will actually arrive. A test below the threshold may not establish successful account crediting.

For an unfamiliar destination, choose a test amount appropriate to those requirements. Wait for the recipient to verify it in the intended account. Agree whether that test counts toward the total payment, and record it separately from the remainder. Repeat the destination check before the second send, even after a successful test.

4. Approve the complete instruction

Compare the final preview with the original plan: sending account, token, network, full address, memo or tag, amount and fee. If a hardware wallet displays transaction details, read that display too. Investigate unexpected permissions or unfamiliar operations before approving them.

Exchange withdrawals can have additional confirmation steps within the sending service. Complete only the steps presented through its trusted interface. For receiving-side requirements, Kraken's deposit guidance illustrates the importance of supported networks and extra routing fields. Use your actual destination's current requirements when completing the review.

Before approving: Can you name the exact asset and network, identify the intended receiving account, explain the expected fee, and point to the receiving details you checked? If an answer depends on an assumption, resolve that question in the receiving app or provider documentation before continuing. The preview should match a complete payment instruction.

5. Verify arrival and preserve the record

After submission, keep the transaction identifier with the network and amount. Follow the transaction through the sending app's details and an appropriate explorer. If a source exchange is still processing a withdrawal, establish whether it has actually broadcast a transaction before investigating blockchain delays.

Finish by checking the recipient's wallet balance or exchange credit. Retain both the test and main-transfer records when applicable. If the expected result is missing, diagnose the existing transaction before sending again. For a fuller walkthrough with practical examples, read how to send altcoins for the first time.
